The Buffalo
I make the earth tremble under my hooves, with
my brothers. We are thunder. We carry the lives of
many in our bellies and on our backs. We’ve
heard the song of the Sioux, Crow, Camanchi,
and Nez Percé. We’ve heard the cries of
Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull, and Roman Nose.
We’ve heard the cries of hungry children.
We’ve heard the cries ourselves…
as we were slaughtered in the dust.
