Black Horse
The horse I stole from the
foolish Blackfoot…tethered to his wife’s foot!
You were young, my black beauty.
Thirty-three battles we rode together, you and I.
The last battle, you took me to safety with our
enemy’s arrow in your side. I will not leave you.
Your spirit is with me, my friend.
Your skin will cover me when I am buried high.
